The basics

What is marketing attribution?

Marketing attribution means working out which marketing deserves the credit for each lead or sale. Done well, it tells you where to spend more and what to stop, based on customers rather than clicks.

  • Which channel brings the most customers?

Leads, customers and revenue for each channel, side by side.

  • Is our Google Ads money working?

Paid Search leads by campaign and keyword, and how many became customers.

  • Are AI assistants recommending us?

Leads from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude in their own channel.

  • Which content starts the journey?

The landing pages and blog posts that first brought each lead in.

Customers and revenue

See leads, customers and revenue by channel

Traffic reports stop at visits. HeyLead follows each lead to the end: mark the ones that became customers, add what they were worth, and the report shows which channels bring revenue.

  1. 1A lead arrives with its channel, campaign and keyword
  2. 2You mark it as qualified, customer or lost
  3. 3Add the deal value, and revenue appears by channel

How credit is given

Which attribution model does HeyLead use?

Simple, so you can explain it to anyone: channel reports credit each lead to the visit that first brought them in. Every lead still shows its last touch and every visit in between.

First touch

Used in channel reports

Credits the marketing that introduced you, like a blog post found on Google. Best for knowing what brings new people in.

Last touch

Shown on every lead

The visit when they sent your form, like a Google ad clicked a week later. Shows what made them act.

Full journey

Shown on every lead

Every visit in order, with pages read and days taken, so you can see the whole path for any lead.

Marketing lead tracking

Track leads from every marketing channel

Attribution is only as good as the tracking behind it. HeyLead records the source of every visit, across 11 channels, and keeps it until that person fills in a form on your website.

One version of the truth

Why your ad platforms and analytics disagree

Every tool counts in its own way, so the totals never add up. HeyLead looks at it from the lead's side instead.

Ad platforms

Google, Meta and LinkedIn each count a conversion when their ad was involved, so several platforms can claim the same lead.

Google Analytics

Counts sessions and goal events. It's good for traffic, but it doesn't attach a source to each real person who contacted you.

HeyLead

One record per lead, with the visit that found them, the one that converted them, and every visit between. Each lead counts once.

Pick a preset, a calendar month or your own range, and see the change from the period before.

Go from channel to keyword

Click a channel to see its sources, campaigns and keywords, then the leads behind each one.

One website or all of them

Multi-site plans show every website together, or one at a time with a single click.

Share it with your team

Invite viewers to read the reports, or export every lead with its source to CSV.

FAQ

Marketing attribution questions

What is marketing attribution software?

Marketing attribution software works out which marketing deserves the credit for each lead or sale, such as a Google ad, a blog post found on Google, an email or an AI assistant. It lets you compare channels by the customers they bring instead of the clicks they get.

Which attribution model does HeyLead use?

Channel reports credit each lead to the channel that first brought that person to your site (first touch). Every lead also shows its last touch and every visit in between. HeyLead doesn't split credit across visits with weighted multi-touch models.

Can HeyLead show revenue by channel?

Yes. Mark a lead as a customer and add what it was worth, and the Channels report shows customers and revenue for each channel, source and campaign.

Does HeyLead show return on ad spend (ROAS)?

Not directly. HeyLead doesn't import ad spend from Google or Meta, so compare the revenue it shows for each campaign with what you spent on it.

How is it different from Google Analytics attribution?

Google Analytics attributes sessions and conversions you set up as goals. HeyLead attaches the source to each real lead, keeps every visit that person made, and can send it to your CRM. Many businesses use both.

Is it suitable for agencies?

Yes. Multi-site plans track 10, 25 or 50 websites in one account, and reports can be filtered by website so you can show each client the leads your work brought in.
